I hate programs like that. So frustrating to get rid of. One thing that has come in very handy for me is the
Ultimate Boot CD for Windows.
It takes a bit to build the cd for your system, and careful following of the build instructions. And I believe you need a windows xp disc for building it (I built mine a long time ago when I still had windows xp).
The best part about using this disc though, is that when you boot from it instead of your harddrive, you get a very windows-like environment from which to do all your necessary cleanup. It comes with many programs like antivirus, antyspyware, root kit cleaners (some of the most insidious programs out there), and tons of other stuff. Plus networking abilities and firefox so you can get on the internet should you need more help using it and for updating antivirus definitions.
The advantage of booting from the cd is that nothing ever gets loaded from your harddrive on startup, which makes clearing out root kits much easier since they don't get a chance to hide themselves from the operating system.
